My paintings delve into representation and narrative embracing the inherently introspective and narcissistic aspects of a person. I like to explore via text the thoughts and feelings of the subject whether it is myself or someone else as they observe themselves both as a physical being and psychologically and use this text as part of the visual narrative. The figures are both realistic and fake. Some body parts painstakingly rendered and others merely sketched out. There is no attempt to ground them, they float in space, often outlined, turning them into sticker-like commodified representations of themselves.
My current projects both examine the feminine mind fuck of our current culture by doing a deep dive into my own psychology and that of my subjects as they examine themselves physically and psychologically. This work is informed by my own experiences of multiple sexual assaults and mental health issues including body dysmorphia and eating disorders.
