Bio

Statement

My portraits are explorations of identity.  I work within narrative using representation and text to expose on a level that is uncomfortable and personal.  There is no hiding behind abstractions.  They are naked, not nude.  I'm rooted in realistic depiction though I want to use realism to highlight not simply show technique. Some aspects are abstract or weak, unrealistically depicted, painstakingly rendered or merely sketched out.  There is no attempt to ground them, they float in space, outlined, turning them into obvious, sticker-like commodified representations.
